~Wal-Mart Lolita-Magazines~

I will be posting ever so often little guides about how to Lolita-fy your life through Wal-Mart. A cheap place that’s almost in every town (even mine!) that’s surprisingly filled with several Lolita type things.
-this post will discuss the magazine section(sorry for the poor pictures-didn't actually buy the magazines, but read them in the store-pictures courtesy of my cellphone-thank you cellphone!)

The magazine section in Wal-Mart has a surprising selection of magazines for a Lolita-chan. They may not be specifically Lolita, but they incorporate many Lolita ideas.

One of the most obvious choices would be of course the sewing, knitting and other craft related magazines. These will show a clothing and accessory deprived Lolita ways to make her own items. But be wary, most of these magazines contain very cheesy and tacky patterns and projects. But with a creative eye, almost anyone can easily turn most of these around into Lolita worthy projects.

As I kept my look-out for Lolita-esque magazines, I came across two little beauties, Victoria and Tea Time. They are probably not for the gothic, punk or more modern Lolita, but they piqued my classic, sweet and hime tastes.

Let’s start with Victoria. By far the most Lolita of them all, it included recipes, antiques, rooms, people, crafts, accessories and all sorts of beautiful classic things. Its tagline is Decorating, Traveling, Enterprising Women, and Entertaining. And basically the magazine is about doing all these things with a classic Victorian mind-set. It is truly a great magazine for the Lolita-Lifestylist with limited resources, to get her hands on.

This particular issue even had a little article on Jane Austen, one of the widely recommended books for the Lolita library. It also included an article on lace and how to decorate your bedroom. It also had a long article on cakes and other baked goods.

The other magazine, Tea Time, as you probably have guessed already, is about tea and all that goes with it. This magazine’s tagline is Tearooms, Food, China and Table Settings. It has a long collection of recipes and several beautiful and imaginative table settings.

This particular issue even had a themed article called Suited to a Tea! All done up with card suit motifs, red roses and black accents. It even could easily be turned into an Alice themed tea party!

So this concludes this edition of Wal-Mart Lolita. Hope you enjoyed it!

Happy New Year!

Clothing Deprived

Well you have come in at the exact beginning of my Lolita journey.

Only a day before Christmas did I realize that Lolita was my new style.

*Gasp!*

And so as you can see, poor ole’ me has no Lolita outfits to be had!

*Screams and faints!*

I’ll start making (and wearing) Lolita-esque accessories first, so as not to surprise the high school folk right off, but ease them into this.

Haha.

Much love and support?

Haha-no one’s even reading this.

Oh well, I’m all too positive for disappointment like that.

Hello! ^___^

I have finally, with much effort, decided to start ‘social networking’. I’m of the age that it should come naturally I guess. But I just have problems coming through on things with no external deadline. I always seem to leave personal projects open and unfinished. Like blogs and profiles and such. The only thing I have kept up with so far is my facebook and my Poupee doll.

I’ve tried to blog for a while, but end up changing it ever so often, deleting the ten or so horrible posts I have made that time and starting anew. But maybe, just maybe this one will work. Partly because I have finally found who I am, I guess.

I am a Sweet Lolita of sorts. I love Decora, little kid stuff, Claire’s (omg my heaven!), and Sanrio. But the rest of my life is made up of antiques, a love for food, art and a love for classic shapes in clothing and furniture. I always thought there was a glaring distance between these two personalities. And I felt kind of lost.

Let’s start from the beginning.

It all started on the Halloween of 08’ in my bedroom. I didn’t have a wearable costume for trick-or-treating because my competition one was a cupcake with no arms and it was hard to walk around in besides. So I was rummaging around my bedroom with my friends, everything strewn around my room to figure what I would wear.

One of my more adventurous friends and I decided to dress as little kids. She kept it simple with a pink tutu I still had from the My Life-Size Barbie I had thrown out long ago (actually donated to a thrift store), a too small Strawberry Shortcake T-shirt over a striped long-sleeved tee, mismatched socks and shoes and an oversized teddy bear.

I on the other hand dressed as a little kid who had too much time and imagination when dressing up.

I piled stuff on me like there was no tomorrow. Suspenders, tights, socks, shirts, necklaces, bracelets, hair accessories! It was madness. And to top it all off we did our makeup like an old fashioned makeover from our 7 year-old days. It was AWESOMENESS.

Then I remembered this crazy style was actually called something. What was it? Fruits! I don’t remember exactly where I first heard the term but from then on I was hooked.

After long weeks of no school due to snow that winter, my knowledge grew. I realized that this amazing style was not called Fruits, but called Decora. I read and read, searched and searched about it until I could find no more. There wasn’t a lot about it to begin with. But soon every week I dressed up as Decora.

But I noticed the distinct gap between my lovely Decora style and the beautiful antiques, art and dance lessons that were my other life. (My parents noticed too and were a little aggravated that I was so keen on succumbing to a label and conforming myself to it as they said-but not in those exact words.)

Soon I grew tired of Decora and the tiring efforts of making a decent outfit. And soon HIGHSCHOOL came and scared me to quit wearing the style all together.

But the obsession came back and I realized through my searching yet again that there were other styles out there that might fit me better. I came across Lolita in my quest for more information and I fell in love, not only with the clothes but with the lifestyle and the people. And this style had an even larger community from which to talk to and gain information from.

I was in heaven in short.

There were certain ideas I disliked, such as the gothic aspect of it, which conflicted with my Decora side. And then as I saw the Sweet style, my heart exploded in happiness and I knew I had found my home.

So here’s to the hopeful success of me continuing this blog to bring you my journey through the Lolita clothing and lifestyle, and in turn, life itself.

P.S.
Sorry about the long post. Just a warning, they’re all going to be like that!
